Description

  • Facilitate the development of new programs/business opportunities at automotive customers
  • Serve as the primary contact for color development and product development by our automotive customers
  • Assist the Sales Department with product selection for various business opportunities
  • Determine development priorities for color matching and sample bale production
  • Initiate Product Request Forms for color matching, sample bales, product number assignment, and trial work for external and internal development projects
  • Determine the volume and program information on development programs
  • Establish specifications for new products, taking into consideration customer requirements company's process capabilities
  • Under the guidance of the Director of Sales, quote prices for sample bales of development items
  • Coordinate the scheduling of trials with customer service and planning
  • Plan and participate in trials both at the Sumter plant and at customer locations
  • Visit customer locations as needed to discuss projects
  • Develop good working relationships with development personnel at customer locations
  • Take steps to minimize the development cycle time to color approval (i.e. – use similar product or tweak existing product)
  • Follow development projects to customer approval and transition them to manufacturing
  • Prepare technical data sheets of our products
  • Report progress in monthly reports to the Technical Director Facilitate the resolution of customer quality problems
  • Serve as the primary contact for quality issues involving fiber at automotive customers
  • Visit customer sites, as needed, to assess the problem
  • Coordinate the use of plant resources to address/resolve the issue
  • Participate in complaint meetings with manufacturing and QA
  • Collect test data and discuss issues with appropriate persons at the plant to determine cause of the problem and validity of the complaint
  • Communicate findings to the customer, to include preparing 8D and Corrective Action Reports, as needed, for customers
  • Assess the validity of claims and submit claims to Technical Service for routing
  • Work with the customers to create alternative uses for rejected goods, if possible, to reduce the financial impact to Company
  • Communicate with the Sales, Manufacturing and Human Resource managers in accordance with policies and established procedures
  • Communicate with Sales, Manufacturing and Human Resource managers with modifications to production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of company to meet or exceed EBITDA, safety and yield goals
  • Confers with customers and representatives of associated industries to evaluate and promote improved and expanded services
  • Responsible for all operations and activities at the Sumter plant related to the Technical Department
  • Reviews production, cost, product quality and projects
  • Responds promptly to the needs of the business
  • Serve as a technical resource for the Sales, Customer Service, Technical Service, Process Improvement, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and R&D groups with respect to automotive products
  • Maintain a database of active automotive products along with the associated program
  • Share knowledge of our products and markets with other areas of our business
  • Participate in various regularly scheduled meetings such as SMIP, Customer Focus
  • Assist in dispositioning products involving quality issues and recommend alternative uses/grades for such products
  • Collect feedback on color consistency from customers and communicate the results to the color lab
  • Provide guidance on how changes/improvements to our process may affect our customers
  • Collect feedback from customers on overall quality and improvements
  • Participate in Trade Shows / Expos to facilitate new business development
  • Comprehends and follow all job related SOPs.
  • Adhere to departmental safety rules and policy.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering
  • Knowledge of plastics processing and polymer chemistry
  • 5 to 10 years experience
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization skills.
